Violin Masterclass with Madeleine Easton

Madeleine Easton is internationally recognised for her versatility and expertise across both period and modern violin performance. Her unique ability to blend historical and contemporary styles has led to performances worldwide as a soloist, concertmaster, and director with some of the world’s leading orchestras and ensembles.

She studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Alice Waten and Chris Kimber, graduating with first-class honours, while also studying Baroque violin with Lucinda Moon. She won the Sydney Conservatorium Concerto Prize with Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 2, and was a finalist in the 1999 Richard Goldner Concerto Competition and the 1998 Gisborne International Music Competition. In 2000, she received a full scholarship to attend the Juilliard/Meadowmount Summer School in New York, winning the chamber music prize. She later earned a postgraduate degree with distinction from the Royal College of Music in London, studying with Dr Felix Andrievsky and receiving the String Prize for most outstanding performer.

Madeleine has appeared with ensembles including the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, The English Baroque Soloists, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Gabrieli Consort, and Australian World Orchestra. She was concertmaster of The Hanover Band (2006–2016) and continues to appear as soloist and director. Other notable collaborations include the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Academy of Ancient Music, and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

She has directed the Royal Academy of Music’s Bach Cantata Series since 2009 and taught at institutions including the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and Monash University.

Her award-winning recordings include the Monteverdi Choir’s Bach B minor Mass (Deutsche Grammophon), and releases with Island, Peyrole Records, ARS, and Somm.

Since returning to Australia in 2019, she has focused on Bach Akademie Australia, which she founded in 2016. Madeleine plays a 1682 Giovanni Grancino violin.
