Valda Silvy Ensemble (VSE) offers an exceptional professional development opportunity for outstanding emerging chamber musicians in Western Sydney. Established by Penrith Con, the Ensemble provides a platform for young talent to hone their skills, collaborate with peers, and receive mentorship from industry professionals.

About the Ensemble
VSE meets weekly on Wednesdays from 4.30pm to 6:00pm, where members engage in intensive rehearsals, workshops, and collaborative projects with other professional chamber ensembles. Members also have the chance to perform in a variety of paid performances throughout the year.

How to Join
Membership in the Valda Silvy Ensemble is available through audition or by direct invitation. Audition applications are welcome at any time, and places are allocated according to performance standard & ensemble experience. We maintain a waiting list of suitable members, and if no place is immediately available for your instrument, we may contact you later if an opening arises.

Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be between 14 and 18 years of age
  • Hold a performance standard of AMEB Grade 8 or higher
  • Auditions are open to the following instrument families: woodwinds, strings and piano

Program Overview
The VSE is a year-long program tailored for early-career musicians. There is no fee to participate. Successful applicants will receive guided rehearsals throughout the year and have the opportunity to perform in up to 4 paid performances annually.
