Valda Silvy, OAM
Valda Silvy is a passionate advocate for the arts in Western Sydney, widely recognised for her commitment to nurturing young musical talent and creating opportunities for students who might not otherwise have access to high-quality music education.
In 1990, she founded the Penrith Conservatorium of Music, which has become the leading institution for music education in the region, offering a wide range of programs to aspiring musicians of all ages.
Throughout her career, Valda has been a steadfast supporter of the arts, working to ensure that young musicians are given the resources, inspiration, and opportunities needed to pursue successful careers in music.
Her tireless contributions to music education and the arts have earned her several prestigious awards, including the Order of Australia Medal (OAM), recognising her outstanding service to the community and the arts.
Her enduring influence continues to shape the cultural landscape of Western Sydney, and her legacy as a music producer and mentor remains a driving force in the local arts community.
The Silvy Medal
The Silvy Medal is an annual student award since 2019 that honours the work of Valda Silvy, OAM, who has been instrumental and highly influential in shaping the musical landscape of Western Sydney, and in particular the Penrith region. The Medal acknowledges the tireless efforts of Valda Silvy and recognizes the musical potential and dedication of one emerging musician at Penrith Conservatorium.
The Silvy Medal is an annual encouragement award for excellence for any student (no age restriction), nominated by their tutor, who they believe is deserving and will benefit from the recognition and the prizes of the concerts included in this medal. Since 2019, the medal has been awarded and presented at the Conservatorium Concert followed by a performance by the recipient.
